Siam Park might have been voted “the best in the world” for the last several years consecutively but Loro Parque had to wait until last year to win the coveted award by visitors who voted on the TripAdvisor website. And now it has won the award for the second year running.
Loro Parque has again expressed delight at the Travellers’ Choice award, saying that the distinction acknowledges its work in education, conservation and raising awareness about protection of the animal world and its ecosystems. The Park has recently thanked tour operators like Virgin Holidays and TUI for not copying Thomas Cook’s decision to stop selling tickets as part of tourist package holidays, a decision Loro Parque management calls a mistake, and says that being voted as “the Number One zoo in the world is a true recognition of our animal welfare work”.
The park says that its work, and its recognition by visitors as the best animal welfare park in the world, within the role of the modern zoo in society, can only be be understood within the context of its science and conservation program, which has operated since 1994 through the Loro Parque Foundation. This has been responsible for some €17m invested directly in conservation programmes both at the park and in the wild, and the salvation of several species, particularly avian, from the brink of extinction.
The Tenerife authorities headed by President Carlos Alonso and Turismo chief Alberto Bernabé congratulated Loro Parque for the award, and singling out its great work and commitment to Tenerife, our tourists, and animal welfare.
