Man drowns at Playa Samarines near Candelaria

A man died this lunchtime in the sea at Playa Samarines just south of Candelaria. Emergency services say that they were called out shortly before 1pm with reports that someone was in difficulties in the water, and that a GES helicopter was dispatched. This, with help from Bomberos, localized and rescued the swimmer and brought him to land but sadly ambulance crew awaiting his arrival were not able to save him and he was declared dead at the scene.

Please do be aware that currently there is a yellow alert from Aemet for costeros – very rough seas – and swimmers should take the greatest precautions in such conditions: see HERE and especially HERE.
