The Centro Hípico del Sur equestrian centre in Buzanada will be home this weekend to a national show jumping championship that will bring international-level riders from all over the country to the Canaries, including the current Spanish “young equestrian” champion. The competition has been held here for 16 years, but this year will be the first at 2-star level, with some serious prizes to be awarded amounting to over €9,000. The championship, which is expected to attract thousands of spectators, residents and tourists alike, will be held tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, 26-28 August, between 5pm and 1am. Entry is free.
Arona Ayuntamiento says that the Centro Hípico del Sur is one of the pioneers of equestrianism in the Canaries, having started in 1990. Currently, it organizes four competitions a year at a high level, with riders from throughout the islands competing alongside those from the mainland. The centre occupies some 12 acres divided into three working and two competition courses, a racetrack and ample external and internal spaces. It complies with all environmental and quality regulations, and is supervised by Seprona, the environmental and animal welfare division of the Guardia Civil.
