Patera’s arrival in south Tenerife explains overnight helicopter activity

Various reports about helicopter activity along the coast of south Tenerife last night have been explained today by the arrival of a patera between Los Abrigos and Las Galletas. The alert was originally given around 9.30pm after three boys of around 16 years of age were intercepted already on land. They said that the boat left Morocco some five days ago. Paramedics treated the three for hypothermia and dehydration while a search and rescue helicopter began looking for the boat, which was found later to have run aground on the Arona coast. Police are now searching for the other occupants. According to the teenagers in custody, there were another 13 or so Saharans aboard the craft.
