Original post 25 February:  Five cars were involved in a serious pile-up on the southbound TF1 near Candelaria at 8.20 this evening. The accident was caused by a driver going the wrong way, and ambulance and bomberos crews had to extricate the occupants of one car in particular, which had flipped onto its side. The driver who was going in the wrong direction, said to be a middle-aged female, was herself taken to Candelaria hospital in critical condition. Needless to say, the accident caused long tailbacks, with the carriageway not being reopened to traffic until just before 10pm.
