Police seek help to locate mother of baby whose remains were found in Arico rubbish plant

Updated 12 January: The Guardia Civil has asked for help to find the mother of the baby whose remains were found in the PIRS plant last week. The police say that they believe now that the mother is from south Tenerife, and that the baby was born prematurely. The public is asked to consider whether they know of anyone in the south – specifically in the municipalities of Arona, Adeje, San Miguel, or Guía de Isora – who was around seven months pregnant but who now seems not to be pregnant nor have a baby. The mother is quite possibly in need of medical, and indeed psychological help, and the police are seeking to help her, and to establish the circumstances behind the tragedy.

Original post 4 January: In a story that recalls the tragic discovery of a baby’s body in the Arico PIRS plant in August 2013, it seems that the remains of a baby were found shortly before midday today while staff were separating rubbish on the conveyor belt of one of the units in the plant. The plant has been isolated and police and forensic teams are on site this afternoon.
