Santiago del Teide Ayuntamiento has approved assistance to pensioners, the long-term unemployed, and families with disabled members, to reduce IBI (rates) bills in 2011 for dwellings in the municipality. Up to 90% of the amount of 2010’s bill could be defrayed this year. Emilio Navarro, councillor for Hacienda, said that the measure was an important aid in the current economic climate, and that the announcement had been made as early as possible so that residents could get help within the voluntary payment window.
For those who think they might benefit from the reductions, applications should be made before 1 April. The areas covered by the municipality are Valle de Arriba, Santiago del Teide itself, Las Manchas, El Molledo, El Retamar, Arguayo, Tamaimo, Puerto de Santiago, and Los Gigantes. The aid will apply to anyone who is registered with the council as a resident, so if you are on the padron and think you might be able to receive a hefty subsidy on this year’s IBIs, get in touch with the rates office at the local council offices.
