Updated 8 October: The family of the young man who fell into the sea has identified the body found yesterday and confirmed that it is him. The sad confirmation will at least hopefully allow the family to begin to try to find some closure in this tragic case.
Updated 5pm: Emergency services say that they’ve made the sad discovery of a body in a cave some meters under water on the Puerto de la Cruz coastline. Clearly, the tragic news is very likely to relate to the young man who fell into the sea on Saturday though this is yet to be officially confirmed.
Updated 7 October: Sadly, the search for this young man now enters the third day. Emergency services say that the Coastguard, Guardia Civil, Policía Local and Cruz Roja are all involved in today’s efforts.
Updated 6 October: Emergency services resumed at first light the search for the young man, now confirmed as 23 years old, who yesterday fell in the sea in the El Veril area of Puerto de la Cruz. The search is continuing today with air, sea and coastal land units from Bomberos, Coastguard, and police.
Original post 5 October: A search is underway for a man who fell in the sea at Puerto de la Cruz this lunchtime. Emergency services say that they were called out around noon with reports that the man had been on some rocks with his partner in the town’s El Veril area when he fell. A GES helicopter delivered the man’s partner, said to be uninjured, to safety, while the Coastguard now undertakes the search for her partner.
