Tenerife’s firemen were hard pressed to deal with a major fire in an industrial warehouse in Arafo last night. The Consorcio de Bomberos says that they were called out just after 11pm with reports of a fire and that it was spreading rapidly, and so units from Santa Cruz, La Laguna and a volunteer crew from Güímar were dispatched to deal with the blaze. The fire is believed to have started in a machinery and tool warehouse that also had a great amount of canvas and wood in it, and some 1,000 litres of oil, which greatly fuelled the flames and increased the fire’s intensity. By the time the blaze was finally extinguished at least half the warehouse had been completely destroyed, and firemen spent the rest of the night dampening down and ventilating the site.
