Five in hospital but safe after fire in small boat off Puerto Colon

Updated 6pm: The coastguard has confirmed that the fire has been extinguished and the boat’s five occupants, who were brought into coast by small craft in the area, were transferred to Hospiten Sur where their conditions are said to be comfortable. Emergency services say the five are a 45-year-old man with shoulder injuries; two 27-year-old women, one with multiple injuries, and the other with leg injuries; a 35-year-old woman with leg injuries; and a 25-year-old woman with back injuries.

Original post 12.30pm: Emergency services say that a small diving boat is burning off Puerto Colon this lunchtime after the craft’s engine exploded. Coastguard and a search and rescue helicopter are on site with unconfirmed local reports of around 5 people in the water. More will follow, I’m sure.
