Spain’s World Cup winning goalkeeper captain in recovery after suffering heart attack while training

Iker Casillas won Spain the World Cup in 2010 … ok it was Andres Iniesta who scored the single winning goal but it was Casillas who captained the team, and who stopped what looked like an unmissable goal from Dutch striker Robben. Tonight Casillas is in hospital having suffered a heart attack while training with his current team, Porto in Portugal. The whole of Spain, and I, and I’m sure all In Tenerife’s readers, wish him well and hope he has a full recovery.

As of 8pm this evening, he himself says that everything is going well, it’s been a great fright, but all looks as though it will be well. The above photo is from his own official Facebook page and was taken in hospital in the last few hours. Here is his marvellous save in South Africa, what is now nine years ago!
