The Tenerife Cabildo says that it will be installing eight outdoor sports parks to promote physical activity among the public. The initiative, called Tenerife In Shape, will involve an investment of €64,000 and will see parks placed around Tenerife.
Tenerife president Carlos Alonso said that Tenerife In Shape is part of a range of initiatives the Cabildo’s sports department is developing to promote physical activity in all sectors of the population. “We have age-specific program”, he said, “such as the Cabildo Games, Youth Sport and Master Games, and this particular installation of outdoor sports parks is intended mainly for adults”. Sports councillor Cristo Pérez said that the investment was being made wholly by the Tenerife Cabildo, and that the sports parks would ensure that physical activity was available for everyone.
The parks will be about 50 square meters and contain a minimum of pull-up bars, wall bars, and parallel bars on a conditioned floor surface. Each park will also have a double sided poster with information on what the equipment is for, how to use it, and contact telephone numbers.
The first park will be installed in Icod next to the swimming pool and tennis courts in the San Felipe area. This will be followed by parks in La Orotava in Avda Iberoamericana near Urb. Carmenaty; in Tacoronte at the back of the Ayuntamiento; and in Santa Cruz on the Via Litoral. In the south, Candelaria’s will be in the Plaza de La Hornilla in Avda Marítima; Güímar’s on the front in Puertito de Güímar; Arona’s on the promenade alongside Playa El Camisón (parallel with the Golden Mile in Playa de las Américas); and Adeje’s in the plaza del Paseo de Las Calmas near the municipal sports centre at the bottom of town.
