TFS back to normal after disruption from Norwegian plane tyre burst on runway

Update 1.45pm: Aena says that as of a quarter of an hour ago, the runway has been opened and is operating again. It will take a little while for things to get back on schedule, but the airport is now back to normal.

Original post 11.30am: TFS is temporarily closed this lunchtime after the tyres burst on a plane just about to take off at the airport. The Norwegian airline plane cannot be towed, and so has blocked the runway. AENA says that it hopes things will be back to normal by this evening, and that travellers should check their flights and to expect some delays. Incoming flights are being diverted, some to TFN, others to Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

  1. Ok I can understand tyres bursting on landing……..but taking off, that is weird???

  2. Yup. I’m sat on Tarmac at Gran Canaria but bound for TFS we had to land with fuel shortage. Landed at 10.3o and keep being told every half hour that we should be able to take off in half hour!!!

  3. Yup.. Stuck at the airport.. Although Ryanair have estimated that we will be departing before 2pm.. At least, that’s what they told us by text! No mention by anyone here of the airport being closed until evening..
