Adeje Volunteer Bomberos have thanked the Tenerife South Lions Club for the donation of a drone to assist with rescues. The presentation was made in the Adeje fire station and included the TFS Lions Club president Prakash Udhwani alongside both the president of Adeje Volunteer Bomberos Cesar Álvarez and Station Chief Carlos Barrera, as well as Norman Goodall, outgoing Lions president.
The new resource will help in searching and locating those who have suffered accidents or simply got lost in areas where access is difficult for human rescuers such as the Barranco del Infierno, the Roque del Conde, and some parts of Tenerife’s south coasts. The drone is a compact Yunnec with six propellers (a hexacopter) designed to take professional-level photos in 2 and 3D, and even carry out thermographic inspections.
The bomberos in Adeje have someone already trained and authorized to use the new machine, and four more are being trained up as well, with the costs of the training also covered by the Lions Club. Understandably, chief of parque Carlos Barrera was delighted, and said that the drone would “help in the search of people in areas with difficult access as well as helping firemen get there more safely, making a qualitative difference in service being the first parque in Tenerife to enjoy such equipment which will serve the whole island”.
