Three pateras rescued to south of Canaries as occupants of two are brought into Los Cristianos

Updated 11pm: Emergency services say that the 62 on board the two pateras were 39 men, 17 women, and 6 children. All are in good health, and only one woman among all of them had to be taken to hospital for non-serious treatment.

Original post 29 March: The Coastguard and the Air Force have today rescued the occupants of three pateras to the south of the Canaries. Some 70 are thought to be on board in total, including children. The search and rescue boat Talía is bringing 62 of them, the occupants of two of the pateras, into Los Cristianos while the lifeboat Menkalinan takes 8 from the third patera to Arguineguín in Gran Canaria. Desperate people coming to a situation that is desperate in its own but different way. There is no information yet as to the state of health of any being assisted.
