The Tenerife Cabildo will start shortly to undertake three works to improve the tourist areas in Santiago del Teide, an investment expected to amount to nearly €4m. The works will be taking place within the framework of the plans for tourism product improvement and the strategy for regeneration of tourist spaces programme. Cabildo Tourism Chief Alberto Bernabé visited the municipality to explain the details of the project which will be in three parts.

The second of these will be the La Hondura paseo marítimo involving the construction of a continuous promenade with periodic miradores in the Las Gigantes area between the current paseo Las Bajas and the Mirador del Roque. The last work will improve and redefine the entire section between Avda Punta Negra and La Gaviota, and so a large part of the Playa de la Arena sea frontage. Firstly, though, work has already been put out to tender for improvements to C/. Flor de Pascua and surrounding areas in Los Gigantes, with the project intended to maximize and renovate pedestrian and public space and improve parking to revitalize commercial activity: this phase will also create a pedestrian connection between Plaza Buganvilla and playa de los Guíos.

  1. Hopefully they will make it disabled friendly as I am unable to use the path from Los Gigantes to Puerto Santiago. I was really excited when they were upgrading, but oh so disappointed when I still couldn’t use it.
