Tomorrow’s transport strike called off

After renewals of collective agreements, the much publicized transport strike that was scheduled for tomorrow is off, the Tenerife Cabildo has announced. Tenerife president Carlos Alonso said he was grateful for all the efforts put into negotiations to ensure that the strike did not go ahead, as well as to preserve the quality and security of Tenerife’s tourism.

  1. As a young second lieutenant on my first tour of Northern Ireland, I remember reading a slogan on a wall in Belfast. It read- “It is not those that can inflict the most, but those who can endure the most- they shall win!”
How I hate being held over a barrel to these potential strikers who know they can bring the island to its knees in days through strike action. Wouldn’ t it be nice to suspend every activity that requires buses or taxis until they begged us to resume using their services? I do not advocate that they are not entitled to their rights but, strikes on a tourist destination is never acceptable. Well done to all who helped reach an agreement.
