The Guardia Civil arrested five people in the early hours of yesterday morning who were trying to bring 1,200 kilos of hash into Tenerife by means of a zodiac-type boat which left the west African coast three days earlier. The landing, and arrest, took place in a bay at Los Silos, in north Tenerife.
Four of those under arrest came on the boat, while the fifth was waiting on land with a vehicle. A Guardia Civil helicopter swept the area afterwards to pick up any others involved in the shipment, and agents from the Grupo de Actividades Subacuáticas carried out a dive to find any drugs hidden or dumped in the sea.
The hash was distributed into 40 packs of 30 kilos each. The individuals under arrest are said to be Moroccans of between 18 and 30 years of age, two or three of whom are Tenerife residents.
The arrests came as the result of a surveillance operation on the north Tenerife coast that the Guardia Civil has been carrying out since May last year. PV
