Two youngsters rescued after getting into trouble in rough seas at Playa La Arena

Despite attracting much attention on social media, two youngsters aged 13 and 15 who got into difficulty in rough sea off Playa La Arena around 6pm this evening were suffering only from non-serious hypothermia. The younger of the pair was able to get out of the water under his own steam, but the elder had to be recued by helicopter after emergency services were called out with reports of their predicament. Involved in their rescue were Salvamento Marítimo, Bomberos de Tenerife, Policía Local. Guardia Civil. Alcalá surgery, and an SUC ambulance. Both were evaluated at Playa La Arena heliport, and then treated at a local health centre.
