Walker dies while hiking in Montaña Roja area

A hiker died this lunchtime while walking in the Montaña Roja area, El Médano. Emergency services say that they were called out just after noon with reports that the man, said to be a foreign national, had collapsed and was unconscious. A doctor in the emergency services control room established from those with the stricken walker that the man had suffered a cardiac arrest, and helped them attempt resuscitation while waiting for help to arrive. Bomberos and the Coastguard helicopter then transferred the man to the beach where ambulance crew were waiting, but sadly despite their continued efforts to resuscitate him, they were unsuccessful and he was declared dead at the scene.
