Canarian health department Sanidad’s 2016-17 winter flu vaccination campaign has started today. Sanidad says that those in the groups most at risk are the over-60s, pregnant women, and health workers, and that these groups, along with patients suffering chronic illnesses or respiratory conditions, are strongly advised to be vaccinated.
Last year’s campaign only succeeded in getting a response from 57% of patients over 65, far from the 75% recommened for this age group by the World Health Organization, and Sanidad says it hopes people will take the advice to get vaccinated against the flu.
Sanidad has a stock of 221,951 flu vaccines and 10,500 with adjuvant (immune response booster) for the frail elderly. There are also 20,000 pneumococcal vaccines to protect against streptococcus pneumonia. Just see your doctor or call 012 for an appointment.
