Update 5 June: The vehicle was a four-wheel-drive Mitsubishi L200 which ended up as above. It seems that it struck a wall and shot off, falling down a small embankment, turning over several times and crashing into the terrace where the victim had just come out of the house, which transpires to have belonged to her mother. She and her husband had just been visiting and were on their way to their own car to go home to their house in Carretera General del Sur, nearby. The husband, it appears, had a miraculous escape.
The victim has been identified as R. María Nieves Bermúdez Díaz. She was a cleaner in the Güímar post office, and leaves behind her husband and three sons. It seems she died instantly. The 74-year-old driver, identified as G.C.D., lived in the road where the accident occurred. He remains in hospital, but blood tests have been taken and are being tested for alcohol. If they test positive, he is likely to be charged with reckless homicide. El Dia
Original Post 3 June: A 54-year-old woman was killed at around 10pm last night by a runaway car in Calle Arrastradero de Abajo, Agache, in the Pájara area of Guimar. The car left the road, and crashed into the terrace where she was taking the night air.
Emergency services were immediately called by neighbours, and the 74-year-old driver of the vehicle, who suffered various minor head injuries but who was able to leave the car without help, was transferred by ambulance to Candelaria hospital in La Laguna. The poor woman, however, was so badly injured that despite all emergency assistance, nothing could be done to save her life. Cecoes112
