The Tenerife Cabildo says that it has now begun the initial works of the second phase of the island’s “fibre-optic ring”. The telecommunications works will be carried out on a 57km stretch between La Laguna and Santiago del Teide to circle the island with optical fiber.
Making the announcement, Tenerife President Carlos Alonso said that ultimately the current works will mean a better service at a lower price for everyone, as well as providing better services by the authorities, such as road surveillance and municipal and insular communications. Once this infrastructure is installed, the third phase will see fiber optic reach all 31 municipalities in Tenerife, works that are expected to be completed by the end of next year.
The total budget for the second and third phases is €7.2m, and will see La Laguna, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, Santa Ursula, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha, Garachico, El Tanque and Santiago del Teide. The first phase, installed between Adeje and La Laguna, is already in operation.
