Works are scheduled to begin today on a complete remodelling of the old centre of Guía de Isora. The works will be carried out gradually over six months to try to minimise disruption but the lovely old county town will have new drainage and street fittings, and see pedestrianization and improved circulation for traffic on the casco’s main streets – Calle de Arriba and Calle de Abajo – and El Mentidero and Sor Larai.
Guía de Isora mayor Pedro Martín said that the council wants “to give an impulse to activity in the historic center of Guía de Isora, the current pavements are very narrow, and these works could represent important business initiatives”. Martín also said that the works would incorporate a new car park to replace street parking in the newly pedestrianized areas, and a street to connect the upper part of the old centre with the El Pinillo area.
Works are expected to cost just short of €900,000, to be 80% financed by the Tenerife Cabildo and 20% by Guía de Isora Ayuntamiento itself.
