Update 13 August: Just a reminder of this event, whether to attend or put in the earplugs! It takes place tomorrow evening from 8pm at the Conquistador beach.
Original post 5 August: The La Siesta Hotel in Playa de Las Américas will be the host for the World Dance Music Arona 2010 concert, the first time the event has been held in Tenerife. It will take place on Saturday 14 August from 8pm, lasting until 2am, and will fill the terraced area next to the Conquistador beach.
The event is open to all and free, and around 5,000 are expected to attend. The noise level is anticipated to be around 40,000 watts, and lighting at 110,000 watts with special effects, LED screens, entertainment and dancers galore.
This is an event that is clearly aimed at young visitors, which makes a welcome change from the older luxury-end tourism marketing of late. Arona Ayuntamiento itself stressed that the initiative showed the municipality’s committment to dynamism, revival and economic mobility, as mechanisms to pull the area out of the touristic doldrums.
