A 16-year-old youth died in a firearm accident in La Matanza de Acentejo in north Tenerife last evening. Emergency services received a call that a lad had been injured, but when medical help arrived, they could do no more than confirm his death at the scene. It transpires that the lad was with his father and brother, amongst others it seems, and had wandered into firing range as another huntsman aimed at a rabbit. He died instantly, and his 35-year-old unwitting killer was arrested at the scene by the Guardia Civil. He has now been charged with murder through grave carelessness. This is the latest in a series of hunting accidents recently. At the beginning of September, two hunters ended up in hospital with serious injuries after being shot while out hunting in Icod de los Vinos and La Orotava. The first happened around 6pm in the El Reventón area of Icod, and emergency services were called out to a accident in which a 60-year-old man had been shot in the stomach by his own shotgun. The other incident involved a 28-year-old man who was also seriously injured after his shotgun fired at him when it hit a rock. The accident happened in the Punta del Cabezón area near El Portillo, in La Orotava. El Dia.
