Applications for renewals of British passports from abroad will be 35% cheaper from next month. James Brokenshire, Immigration and Security Minister, has announced that from 7 April fee for British citizens applying for a UK passport from overseas will be reduced by £45 for adults and £28.50 for children. This will mean the fees for new passports will be £83.00 for a 32-page adult passport, £53.00 for a 32-page child passport, and £91.00 for a 48-page passport, whether for adult or children. The reduction in price is the result of efficiency savings that have been made over the last three years by bringing back the processing and issuing of overseas passportsREAD MORE

Update 17 March 2014: Adeje Council’s Culture department will once again present “the greatest story ever told” – the Passion of Jesus Christ – tomorrow, Good Friday, 18 April. The annual Easter passion play reenacting the last days and death of Jesus of Nazareth, the Pasión, will once again be staged in Calle Grande and will be broadcast live throughout Spain on TVE in the Canaries and on La2 nationally. Update 15 March: The official opening of the Hard Rock Cafe takes place tonight, with a concert outside the restaurant by Spanish singer Leiva, formally of the group Pereza.  Arona’s concejalía de Seguridad del Ayuntamiento has coordinated security measures, which will involve a hundred or so Policía Local and Nacional and Protección Civil officers. The regional director general for public health José Díaz-Flores Estévez and Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga have presented a pilot sexual health project which includes a sexual information service and rapid HIV tests for Adeje. The service  is intended among other things to improve sexual health awareness and reduce unwanted pregnancies and HIV, and will be available in Adeje’s health promotion department in the Centre for Tourism Development Costa Adeje (CDTCA) in El Galeón.
